Learn more about your sensory systems in order to facilitate your wellbeing

Whether we realise it or not, our sensory preferences influences all areas of our daily lives from the moment we wake up until the moment we go to sleep. For many individuals sensory difference impact the way they perceive the world, how they feel and how they are able to go about our daily lives. Understanding your sensory systems and preferences can help enhance your wellbeing and increase your understanding of why certain tasks or situations are difficult and how to address this.

Dr Lelanie Brewer is now offering sensory screening assessments and consultations to families (of adolescents aged 12 years and up) and adults who want to learn more about their child’s or their own sensory processing patterns.

About this screening and consultation service

This service will be provide you with a screening of your child's or your own sensory preferences and general ideas on on how you can use this information to optimise participation in daily activities and to support your physical and mental wellbeing.

The service consists of an online assessment, the Sensory Processing Measure, Second Edition (SPM-2), which will help your recognise and understand your or your child’s sensory processing patterns. This includes a short report and an online meeting to discuss the report and recommendations.

This screening will:

  • Improve your understanding of why or your child might find certain activities or events challenging

  • Improve your understanding of why your or your child may respond differently to sensory input

  • Provide a list of support strategies you can use to help you or your child (if relevant)

  • Will help you understand what activities are helpful to support sensory preferences and wellbeing

This screening will not:

  • Provide an official diagnosis. This questionnaire is designed to identify an individual’s sensory processing patterns and preferences based on answers provided.

  • The report is not designed to be evidence for an Education, Health and Care Plan nor for a tribunal assessment.

About the assessment

The Sensory Processing Measure 2nd Edition consists of an online questionnaire which asks parents or individuals to answer a series of questions related to their processing of sensory information. The form is designed to provide an overview of an individual’s sensory needs and preferences across work, school, and community settings.

Within 10 working days of completing the online questionnaire you will be provided with a summary report and I will contact you regarding a time for an online consultation.
